Final front cover pic

I have decided in this photo for my front cover as it goes against most magazines, as you can't see the face. Marjorie Ferguson (1980) identified four types of facial expression in the cover photos. The four types were Chocolate box, Invitational, super-smiler and Romantic or Sexual. My photo does not fall into any of these types, so i have called it shy or grim. This means the figure in the photo is hiding, often behind a hood. The figure is shy and hiding, or is grim and wears a hoody over their face.(like a grim reaper). The effect i hope for is that people will want to know who is on the front cover, not knowing the figure keeps information/gossip about them. The problem is that the audence could just find the information on the internet. Another effect of the front cover photo is that it directly looks at teenagers (my target audience). This is because it is relatable, many teens wear hodies, the true reason is unknown. But many people think it is because they don't want to be seen, or that they're a crimnal/'rebel'. The front cover photo also tells people that he/she is diffrent, he/she does'nt stick their face on every magazine like over celebrites/singers. In conclusion a realy like the shy or grim photo, and i think it could catch peoples eyes just for being different.

Magazine designs and ideas

After looking at some pass foundation production work, they all do the same thing. They all have a band and interviews inside them. My choice now is whether to go with the flow, or do some thing different. Due to time left im going with the flow, and these are some designs of the front covers, contents page and DPS(double page spread). I have decided try go the iconic man smashing a amp with a guiture. For the contents page i have gone for the sort of dropped messy photo effect. This a iconic repentation of teenage life stlye and is recogniseable by all age groups. The double page spread was the hardest, but i have gone with a typical teenage attitude. To themself, not listening and headphones on. The colours will need to fit so, black, red, grey, dark blue is the most suitable to repersent the feelings of the front cover photo. Sort of in your face, don't care attitude.
My target audinece is a little different. It will be aimed towards 13-19 teenagers, people who want to be different. They will be C classed people or need, people who don't like the higher ranked people and genrally wont to live life to the fullest. (party). My magazine will meet their needs of esteem, like self-esteem, confidence and respect by others. They would want this magazine for confidence and to show them you are not alone. My magazine will include reader feed back, interviews, reviews and previews. I will include video games in my magazine contents page, as the majority of teens play them and talk about them, as well as music.

Idea 2

Todays lesson's was 'show and tell', we had to show are work and tell everybody what we were doing and what we are going to do next. My feedback as great and i had a change of heart. I have now chosen to make my music magazine 'Minum' into a one off special tribute to 'Iron Maiden'. I have chosen this as i have a lack of intrest in music instruments and other typical Rnb,pop and other bands. This is important as if im doing the magazine on something i like then i will be more motivated and will be easier to write about a band i like, rather then originaly writing about stuff i dont. The problem is that i will have to start from scatch so work will be difficult. My target Audience will be the same, but will directly focus to Iron Madiden fans. The magazine will now have a Iron Maiden ablum cover and the title 'Minum' will have the same font as Iron Maidens logo (this will be done using photoshop). The picture at the top is a example of what will be on the front cover. The magazine will still have other things then just iron maiden, but the double page spread will be about there history, recent tours, and fans opinuns.

Idea 1

Target Auidence: My target auidence is going to be both male and female people within the age group of 16-20 year olds. This will mean my magazine will be targeted to students and people who are interested in music. My magazine will have to intrested and make people want to pick the magazine up.

Action plan: Originaly i was going to do a typical music magazine containing band reviews, latest gigs/ shows and tours and a little about music equipment (i.e speakers, instruments and so on). Instead i plan on doing it the other way round, menaing it is focused on telling you the best equipment to get and has a little about bands and shows\gigs. To start i will be trying to find the most common of music brands such as Pearl, Yamaha, Lyan. I will then photograph the instrument and put it on the front cover to promot it and so the audience sees it and knows what it is. Also i will make the font of my title 'Minum' the same as the logo of the front cover instument. The pictures you see at the top are some examples of what i may use and are taken by me.
